C. Brian Carlin
Brian Carlin holds a bachelor of science degree with honors from the University of Maryland and a law degree from Catholic University. After law school Brian clerked for The Honorable Calvin R. Sanders of the Montgomery County Circuit Court. He is admitted to the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars.
Brian has extensive experience in transactional matters, with emphasis on commercial real estate, including preparation of contracts, leases and financing documents. As an approved attorney for a national title insurance company and a title agent in Maryland and Washington, D.C., he also provides commercial and residential real estate settlement services.
Brian's transactional work includes advice and representation on the purchase and sale of businesses and preparation of buy-sell and non-compete agreements. He represents a number of auto dealerships in the Washington region, providing counsel on the acquisition, operation and sale of their franchises and in the acquisition and financing of their real estate, and he serves as a strategic advisor to senior management. Brian has been general counsel to a community savings bank and he continues to represent commercial banks in the preparation and enforcement of commercial loan documents.
Brian's practice also includes trust and estate matters. He assists clients in the preparation of estate plans, with emphasis on strategies to minimize estate and inheritance taxes, and he represents personal representatives and trustees in estate and trust administration matters. Brian has been appointed by the local courts on numerous occasions to serve as personal representative, trustee, guardian, and in other fiduciary capacities.
Brian is a member of the Maryland State and Montgomery County Bar Associations (serving on the Judicial Selection and the Fee Dispute Resolution Committees of the County Bar Association), the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, and the Washington, D.C. Estate Planning Council. He holds an A-V rating (the highest) from Martindale-Hubbell.
